Re: [pvusers] PV inverter reliability

Observation.

The original question may have needed to specify the class of inverter.

What I see is that there are 2 broad types of inverters on the market.

1) - Inverters designed for heavy service, for the AE community, etc.

2) - Mass market inverters, typically Square-Wave, maybe modified sine.
Purchased @ Walmart or the Auto Parts store etc. Typically has a
cig lighter for input power. Typically cheep both in $ and quality.

The inverters of class 1 are reliable. These were designed for 100% duty
cycle; 24/7 operation. The computer used to type this message
is on an SW4024, in it's 6th year of trouble-free service. I have a friend
who has used a DR2612 for 15? years now.

The inverters of class 2 are, well, you get what you pay for.
Overload 'em once and poof!.
I keep one in my truck to recharge the laptop, but I don't expect
it to do anything serious.
