Re: [pvusers] RFI Inverter Problems
Bill,
This can be a bear to track down.
What brand/model is the inverter? Modified s-wave I presume?
Is the system properly grounded?
Is the inverter designed for permanent installation, with a neutral
AC terminal that's at ground potential, or is it one of the small
portable units designed for "temporary" use (wherein the "neutral" AC
conductor is at ~60VAC wrt ground)?
Is the modem an external model, powered by a separate "wall-wart" or
is it internal to the computer? If the inverter is mod s-wave, a wall-
wart may not have sufficient filtering to power the modem cleanly.
If you run the computer from the generator, and operate the inverter
at the same time (preferrably loaded to a similar degree as when
running the computer) how's the phone line/connection speed? This
question is intended to sort out whether we're talking about RFI
transmitted through the air - which is relatively unlikely - or a
problem caused by the nature of the power waveform and/or grounding
issues.
