Boil, then simmer



Thanks for your comments Karve and Gitonga.
 
Interestingly, it was the VWB that brought the water to a boil first on both occasions.
 
The high ash content may be a burn extender and by nature reduce heat output, but it only comes into play gradually as the burn progresses. The initial heat is from the surface of the charcoal with no inhibition.
