Re: Another Turbo Stove!

Kirk, Tom, Tapio and other stovers

This is just to add a bit more to the work of Tapio and his associates and others in Finland about this stove:

1.  I have written Tapio a bit about "stoves" and invited him to join.

2.  To add to Tom's comments, Tapio's stove has these characteristics:  all stainless steel, 31 cm high, 27 cm dia;  multi-fuel;  0.5 to 5 kW output; 3 kg weight.

3.  Unique features:  double wall, allowing preheating of both primary and secondary air;   shipped (from Finland) as a flat package for assembly by the buyer.

4.  I also liked the many applications shown - brewing tea, cooking corn, potatoes, meats, and smoking fish.  But best were lots of ingenious looking tabs and legs that seemed mostly to snap into place.

5.  There are no data on efficiency and emissions.

6.  For those doing stove commercialization, this site should be visited.  There are a few technical papers at the site - one on the poor environmental production qualities of charcoal-making.

Subject: Another Turbo Stove!

Dear All:

Kirk Smith asked...

>Do you know anything about this "turbo stove"  It is being
marketed heavily to some NGOs working in the third world.  Best/k

I visited the site and WOW!

Neat site with 30 pictures of cooking fish to nuts in Africa (Sudan)  on the African Turbo Stove.

First let me say that it bears NO relation to the CPC/BEF Turbo Stove which is a modern woodgas stove with a blower - hence the name "Turbo".  But this appears to be a crude but effective stove for burning any old wood fuel and cooking many kinds of material.  I hope Mr. Tapio (the inventor) will wish to join the CREST stove site.

It is made of stainless steel, needs to be assembled (without tools) and sells singly for $63 plus shipping.  Quantity discounts available down to $24.90 for 6500 (a container load).

There has been a lot of talk about improved stoves here in the last 5 years, but this is a possible real advance available to many people.  Don't underestimate the power of commercial action.

Comments?

Yours truly,                      TOM REED                      BEF STOVEWORKS
