Dear Stovers Our third test was with 4 gm of newspaper, 6 gm of grass and 114 gm of wood this time. The initial water temperature was 32 as it had been sitting in the sun. The fire went secondary at 28 seconds which is a record for us. Three people watched and agreed on when the water was hissing. The time from match to hiss was 56 seconds. The temperature of the outside of the chimney was 280 C within 80 seconds. The radiation losses were dramatic. I used 3 paint cans to give the best possible draft This test was witnessed by Jim Ross and Keith Allen, mechanical engineer from Swazi Wire Industries. The mass of fuel was so small that it came to a rolling boil though it produced steam when the fire was still on.
