Tom and others,
Studying hydroponics, I have had the pleasure of working with some of
the worlds great water quality experts. I belive that simple solar heated
sterilizers using both the uv light and the low level heat from sunlight can
do an excellent job. The pump comes on when the sun is out and the clean
water is stored when it is not.
My combined water/heat storage system uses the fluxuation of the day
night temperature cycle on clean rainwater to discourage bacteria and algie
growth. Activated charcoal lasts a long time when combined with such
systems only for final backup. I guess I never realized that clean water was
so hard to find some places in the world. We get 40 inches a year of rain
and it doesn't take a big roof to collect a lot.
I like rain water because of the low salt level. If you have water at
<10ppm dissolved solids, not much will grow in it to begin with as it is too
sterile. I think people live longer drinking it too. Water is a universal
solvent but only works good when it is not already saturated with salts.
Clean water flushes out the body better. I recomended it(distilled in this
case) for Mom when she was doing chemotharapy and the doctor said it seemed
to help her toxin levels.
What do I know? I don't have a degree.
