Re: Report on visit with John Crouch

Ron, and greetings John, and hello Stoves,

This is in haste, and I promise to write more when I get back next week.

I do all my numbers in g/kg fuel which is most useful for emission
inventories.
I am aware of a lot of work on fireplaces that has been summarized (by
OMNI, I think). However, it is becoming obvious that fireplaces/wood
heaters perform so much differently than small, tended cookstoves.
Large, untended cookstoves may be more similar to fireplaces.

    OPEN FIRE, TENDED WELL 6.1

I would like to improve on my method of measuring CO so please do
understand that these are preliminary.

Since we could not analyze unburned HCs, I don't have estimates of
combustion efficiencies. Total efficiency of Rocket was ~27% (VERY
ROUGH, did not measure fuel heat content) and open fire was ~22%.

I am happy to collect these numbers-- I do anyway as part of my emission
inventory effort. I have already done some tabulating of Kirk Smith's
work, Grant's, etc.

cheerio
