The method works only in countries having a relatively cold weather. In
India, where the plants transpire about 8 to 10 litres of water per square
meter per day, the system described here would cause great water loss. It is
used in India by industries that produce polluted water, which they are not
allowed to let untreated into natural streams and rivers. In such cases, the
quantity of water coming out of the system is not important, as long as it
is clean.
