Re: GAS-L: My first look at patent office

    Hi Daniel and All,
It's not that bad if you do a few things.
First when you have an idea write it down in a
journal and date it. This will establish that you came
up with it first, called prior? art. Then anyone
patenting it won't be able to win a suit against you.
Second when you patent something people will
rip you off unless you want to spend a lot on legal
fees. Also you have to patent it in all the major
countries to be really effective.
So to get around these costs keep the journal
updated, keep your ideas to yourself until you are
ready to put them into production.
By not patenting it will give you a 1 to 3 year
headstart which means you will always be 1+ years
ahead of the competition.

All you have to do is publish your idea and no
one can effectlly patent it. Patents are only for new
ideas.
If you check it out few things have not been
invented so far and most have had their patents run
out. Many of these idea's were great but the tech,
politic of the time didn't allow for them to come to
be. Read Popular Science back to 1890's and you will
see what I mean. We keep inventing the same thing over
and over again.
I have several patentable ideas myself and this
is the strategy I'm using to keep costs down. I'll
patent them after I start production. This gives you a
longer patent "protection" period too.
           Hope this helps,
