Re: 40 W thermoelectric power

Paul,

Have a look at this site: http://www.hi-z.com/

Unfortunately these things are far from cheap, especially if as much
as 40W was truly needed for a fan. (That sounds like an awful lot to
me!) The last time I spoke to someone at this particular company they
were hoping to lower the cost, but I would think it would still be
prohibitive.

A thermal differential across the device is required to generate
electrical power. One of the pages on the site shows a prototype
assembly on a (North American heating) woodstove stovepipe, which
uses some of the power generated to run fans blowing across/through a
heatsink to improve the delta T. A clever design using the fan both
for this purpose and as a combustion-aiding blower (bonus: preheated
air) for a small cookstove might well be possible.

Again, I throw this out only as an example of a thermoelectric
generator. It many not necessarily be an economically viable one.
