Lanterns - TEGs
I apologize for my HTML formated message. Default setting of my e-mail is
ASCII but....I actually didn´t check it.
For sure, wind is our first choice, Patagonia has a curse and an untapped
wealth: Wind.
When you have a little village, or a school or community center you can
install a wind generator in an adequate place, pehaps some hundreds meters
away from the loads, build a small shelter for electronics and batteries at
the base, convert 12 V DC to 220 V AC (our standard) thru a rugged and cheap
chinese converter (U$S 80 for 300 W) and then connect the homes. We will
build the wind generators with ITDG technology, locally.(Prototipe on works)
Cheaper than a Lister (BTW: We made Listers here until a few years ago) And
we do not have any oil seeds here!!
In some places we have also good conditions for mini-micro hydro. Lots to
learn from Nepaleses.
But we have also many isolated homes, one or two families, four to ten
people, and we must find a solution for them. TEGs?
In fact Light up the world is using as main power source man-powered chinese
bicycle dinamos (U$S 6 a piece) Why not?
Someone in our group, who began working in ATs many years ago, contributed
with a set of "Rules of action"
First one: "If they exist an appropiate, proven solution for your problem,
JUST USE IT WITHOUT FURTHER ANALYSIS. Keep your inventive for amusement and
unsolved problems"
Thanks for your comments.
Roberto.
BTW: The ITDG generator was projected by Hugh Piggott, the guru of DIY wind
generators, I guess ITDG applied Rule 1.
