Steel Roofs

As a start, you might want to go to your local library and check out the
Thomas Register. Look for "Roofs, Metal, Standing Seam" The
manufacturers in there will supply you with information, specifications,
installation instructions and availablility. Standing seam roofs require
some sort of solid subsurface (like OSB or plywood). I don't think you
can install it directly on 2 x 4 joists unless you lay the joists out to
coincide with the roof seams. I was looking at using a metal roof when I
built my house 6 years ago, but they were more expensive than tile and a
lot more expensive than asphalt shingles. Alas, my pocketbook made my
decision.
