We would like to inform you of a housing development project for 1500 (a 
thousand and half) economical homes at a coast of 35 million dollars, 
begun by our friendlysociety «LA MUTASEG» 
and to solicit the establishing of partnership in the technical and 
fields and the financing of this operation which will contribute to the 
economic development of our country. 

You will find in the following pages (annex) a short presentation of our 
country, of our friendlysociety « mutual » and the project which it is 
planning.

2. A brief look at the MUTASEG

The MUTASEG (mutuelle des agents du secteur de l’electricite et de gaz) 
the mutual of workers in electricity and gas. Is a special part of the 
SYNASEG (the trade union of workers in electricity and gas),
Because of that, the mutual is made up principally of members of the CIE 
(Compagnie Ivoirienne d’Electricité) the last born Ivoirian company of 
electric power; of EECI (Energie Electrique de Côte D’Ivoire) the former 
Ivoirian company of electricity, and of GDCI (gaz de Côte D’Ivoire) the 
Ivoirian company of gas.

It is open to all workers in Côte D’Ivoire, its mission is to care for 
social affairs as a co-operative would do. Its central office is in the 
port area in Abidjan near the « grands moulins in CIE concession.

the Côte D’Ivoire government undertook a gigantic housing project through 
states companies (SOGEFIHA / SICOGI) and through private promoters. 
Unfortunately, this thrust was interrupted in the 1980’s because of the 
economic crisis. 
Today, the deficit in housing, according to statistics stands about 25 
000 homes a year. A study carried out among the workers in the electrical 
gas area showed that 7 out of 10 workers would like to be private owners 
but they are actually renters. The MUTASEG, through this project has for 
its primary objective the housing of its own members.

the principle of the friendlysociety is rent/direct sale.
The mutual has already made a preliminary enquiry to find out the number 
of those who wish a home and what kind they would like. Since February 
1995, it has engaged in an active subscription campaign. The first papers 
have been signed by the subscribers and the first payments have been 
made.
The members of mutual have already given their initial subscription price 
which is 10 % of a home global coast in order to purchase the land.
The mutual has at present a piece of land of 79 hectares in the Cocody 
area and another of 68 hectares in the yopougon area.
