Re: whatīs happening?

Hi Kaj and strawbalers,

This is Melinda, the list admin. Sorry it's taken me so long to answer
your concerns, but here goes.

>1. There used to be a line every day telling how to unsubscribe. Even

Yipes! There WAS a line missing from the end of the
strawbale-digest. I've put it back in, it's way at the bottom.

>2. Several digests lately have mostly consisted of previous digests being
>repeated. 1783 is mostly a repetition of 1782, and 1784 is a long snip of
>both of them.

Right. This often happens when someone sends in a reply to previous
message and he or she includes all of the previous message. I know you've
all heard this recently, but if you reply to someone else's message, please
just include the bits of their message that you are actually
addressing. This is especially important if you are replying to something
in the strawbale-digest, because those messages are huge.

>3. A lot of messages come as "This is a message in MIME format" and then a
>looong list of strange codes that are useless.

This is a problem that is specific to the digest. The long lines of code
are from attachments that people have sent in. When majordomo is creating
the digests, it seems to be clueless as to how to interpret them, and just
gives them to you as lines of gobbledeygook (to use the technical
term). I'll check in with solarhost (the folks who host the list) and urge
them to upgrade to something that doesn't have this limitation.

In the meantime, I'd like to ask people to take this into consideration,
and if you have a word document or pictures you'd like to share, please
don't send them directly to the list as attachments. Instead send a note
that tells everyone that you have cool things available upon individual
request. This will also be a big favor for those people who have slow net
connections.

Thanks everybody for your helpful comments. I'll try to keep the technical
things running smoother so that you can concentrate on strawbalin'!

Take care,
Melinda Nickels
