I missed the initial posting on this thread but wanted to
recommend two books that helped us a lot through our first
post and beam in terms of sizing of posts, beams, joists,
etc.  The first is "Practical Pole Building construction" by
Leigh Seddon and published by Williamson and the second is
"Alternative Housebuilding" by Mike McClintock published by
Sterling.  Also, FHA has published a number of free booklets
on the subject of pole and beam.  You might be able to locate
the documents for download on the web.  I ordered mine by
snail mail.
