SB around the world! and other stuff

Over the weekend we got an unusual air postal package. Inside we found a
short video of the ADRA SB project in China. Its a homemade tape, with no
narration, showing a man drawing up plans for a house, then several men
making single bales with a gear drive contraption, then the posts of
brick going up, then the bales and finally the plaster and the finished
house. What an emotional watch for both of us!

I am writing to Scott Christiansen of ADRA asking his permission to share
the letter that accompanied the tape. The data in it is mindboggling.
Thanks to all of you who make it possible for us to participate in these
marvelous projects world wide.

If you are in central Texas and want to come stack some straw next
weekend, let us know. We have 3 or 4 full time places in the current
workshop. Since the building is small (16 x 24) we can't have a great
gaggle of workers! It was great last time watching folks realize that
BEFORE you can stack straw, you have to have some place to stack it. So,
they picked up the shovels and dug the trench for the footer, they
stacked the blocks and poured the footer. It wasn't nearly as much of a
surprise on Sunday for them to realize the roof was up to them as well!
Straw bales this coming weekend (2/3 & 4) and the two weeks later (2/17 &
18) we will be doing plaster. Getting muddy is always so much fun!

Then if you are still in the area, and have yet another free weekend, on
2/25 we will do a ranch tour at Selah, the Banberger Ranch. The largest
land reclamation project on private land in the state of Texas. Lots of
neat things to see, fascinating people to meet, and a fine meal if you
are so inclined. Cost is $ 10 per person for the tour, an adiitional $8
for the vegetarian lunch afterward.
