Re: Career advice?
From: Julia Jones-Ufkes <juliej-u@pacbell.net> via listserv@regen.org

I was an ENV student at Cal Poly. I graduated with a BS in Landscape
Architecture in 1999. It was my second bachelors having earned a BA in
Liberal STudies back in 1987 and a teaching credential in 1988. The design
degrees require many sleepless nights (even if you dn't procrastinate), are
very stressful (largely because of the way the program is run), expensive
(expect to spend about $600 a quarter on photocopying, graphic supplies,
etc.) and time consuming. Strawbale is not covered very extensively at all
in ARCH or LA. Not that there aren't a lot of good things happening in
those programs, but I think if you want to really delve into strawbale I'd
see about hooking up with some people who do it professionally, like Real
Goods, or others that you may find in the the newsletter put out by Out on
Bale, a general resource, ed. and info center for straw bale. Their
address is 1037 E. Linden St., Tucson, AZ 85719. I bet they have a
website, though I don't know what it is. The book put out by Real Goods,
The Straw Bale House, has resources mentioned in the back of the
book. Maybe your library has the book? I could probablly find the cards
of the architects I know of with a little digging in my drawers, if you're
intersted.
