RE: SB: Small, cheap, easy, and temporary

Thanks for this response. I see your point. Naturally, though, "cheap" is
always relative.

Well, there are three reasons in our case to look at doing a temporary
structure. Any or all of them might be mistaken, so I appreciate any
correction anyone might have.

First, to minimize costs for materials and time spent building the
structure. If we're building a temporary structure, we can forgo finishing
the walls with stucco, adobe, etc. and don't need to worry about durability
of materials like roofing.

Second, I am making the assumption (and here I'm on very unfamiliar ground)
that a temporary structure isn't liable to be subject to much in the way of
permitting requirements, and possibly there would be no permitting required
whatsoever. I'm not sure we could obtain a permit for an additional
permanent structure on the tiny piece of land that goes with our house.

Finally, it would be nice to be able to experiment and feel like we can
make any number of mistakes without immortalizing them. I'd like to really
learn from this structure more than anything, and of course attending other
strawbale raisings and workshops will contribute to that, but probably
building our own will open our eyes to things in a way that they wouldn't
otherwise be opened.

Best wishes,
Luc Reid
