Rob you make a good note of peat mosses's (mossi? moose?) abilty to
retain water.
Yes this is true, once reason I went to sawdust and paper to experiment
for NON garden pottery.   I use lime and clay ( no cement) and paper or
sawdust exclusively, the paper pot mix I used is holding up well
outdoors after almost a year under contant rain, no degredation. But
before I pade them as permanent sills I would want to be causious(sp?)
too. When I get a free hour or two I will handshape a sill and see how
it functions. Natural stone or slate is an excellent idea. Out local
builder supply has huge chunks of stuff to drool over. INdoor sills can
still be made with Tufa Stone, but not in the shower.
