Re: SB: Lime Plaster Tint Suggestions?

Sarah, I used a pure red adobe colored clay (harvested from the site of a
SB builder in ROugh & Ready CA, I hauled the sticky clay home, let it dry
and added it as a powder to a pure lime- sand plaster. the tone can be as
dark or light as you want, add more clay for darker...other soils could
work, test batches on small areas, a yellow clay will give a goldish
color..etc.

The lime and clay will bond nicely making a cement of its own.

My own local clay did not have the rich brown adobe color, so I was happy
to find dirt that did!

and it cost nothing, worked perfectly and I plastered an entire fire
hearth wall (covering old really ugly faux 1/2" brick put up in the
50s)strawbale@crest.org
