Personally, I don't want the stuff near where I must breathe. I won't use 
polyurethane in the house I am designing, even for floor finishes (probably 
the single most popular use).

If you design the attic space for the weight, and if you don't need it for 
storage or living space, why not simply line it with bales? Many others 
have done this with great success, I understand.

Whatever solution you come up with, in my opinion you should also consider 
a foil-based reflective barrier and be sure you have adequate ventilation, 
both for intake and exhaust. Of course, here in Texas the largest problem 
is excess heat rather than winter insulation.
