Another insulation to consider is recycled cotton batt insulation.  I've
used it and it was great to work with.  They have 2 products, an R=13 (3
1/2"), and an R=19 (5 1/2").  (You can double up to get higher insulation
values for attics.)

The cost is competetive with fiberglass (may even come under encapsulated
fiberglass).

Just wanted some feedback on Polyurathane insulation for attic

I know some of the old comments on embodied energy etc...but it seems to
me that the most inefficient component of the
SB spaces we are building is the attic space.  We have typically been
blowing either Fiberglass (R-42) about 16-18" or
cellulose at 24-33 inches to achieve an efficient roof system that
compares with the sidewalls..  However...as everyone
knows...the cellulose slowly compacts over time with wind moving through
the attic, and with both systems there is a
certain amount of air movement through virtually unidentifiable
spaces...
The use of Polyurathane (R-7) per inch...would require only 6" to equal
out, and would virtually eliminate the settling
and air movement....
question:....does anyone have info on  outgassing...is there a health
hazzard either long term or short term?

                 Has anyone compared the cost of application?

                 Any other food for thought?
