RE: SB: Polyurathane insulation

One of these products is a Canadian product called Icynene. Icynene is a
sprayed-in foam, that uses CO2 as its blowing agent (ie, does not contain
ozone depleting blowing agents). The polymer is completely inert and
therefore does not off-gas compounds that could negatively effect indoor air
quality. It is simple to install (by a trained professional), but can be
twice as expensive as fiberglass insulation would be. It has excellent
thermal insulating properties, at R-value 4.3 per inch, and has the
additional property of acting as an air barrier. The air barrier helps
prevent convection and air infiltration, especially in windy conditions.

Hope this helps....

Ted

There are form of the expanding foam that are closed cell non out
gassing. They are slightly more cost, but vastly more permanent and
resistant to shifting and insect damage. Given how long buildings last,
longevity is an issue I think gets too little attention.
