SB: Moisture Barrier between flatwork and house

Hi All!

Actually really enjoyed the Kyoto discussions...'bout time we had
some good barn-burning conversations around here....been getting
rather quiet lately.

(oh, and not to start a population thread...but I am very pleased to
share the good news that our newest baby, Noah, came into the world
last week. Our first "house baby", now it really feels like I've
lived in this s-b house forever)

Here's what I wonder in the late nights up with Noah.....

getting ready to do some flatwork around my house...patio and step,
and I remember Sara's comment that she thought that rain falling on
her concrete patio was soaking into the walls of her house.

That seems completely plausible, and very UN-desirable!

So, what could I put between my flatwork and the exterior wall of the
house to provide a barrier to moisture wicking into the wall? I know
of material that provides a break between the two so as to prevent
cracking, but does that same material stop moisture?

Thanks for any ideas!

Peace,
Matt
