Re: SB: a long rant on the topic of off topic rants (apologies in advance)

DE-

Thanks for the book list. I read ECOLOGY OF COMMERCE a couple of years
ago, and Clint and I read NATURAL CAPITALISM during a recent road trip.
(I read while he drives and then we discuss while I drive). The others
are new to me, but I will (as always) trust your good judgement and have
a look.

The other David's response was a good one, my only rebuttal to him is
that the things that can "mend" our planet are not, as he states, your
theories-- but are indeed in practice in many places.

I still hold to my opinion that we live in a democratic republic, but
whatever we call our form of government-- it works better than most on
the planet. But wherever we live, working together we can create positive
change, we can continue to grow and have profit-- both individually and
corporately-,and we can heal the earth.

When Adams, Adams, Franklin and the rest were trying to put together the
most sweeping cultural change in the history of mankind, they had to wait
days, weeks even months to complete an exchange of ideas. We have the
electronic edge on them. Those three were diametrically opposed in many
instances on how to accomplish the goals they had agreed on, sometimes
they didn't even agree on the goals!! But in the end, this nation
(whatever it is) came into being.

I have great faith that informal bandings of like minded people, such as
this list, have already begun a revolution. With no Tea Party in the
Harbor, no shot fired at Bunker Hill, change has come. Because we have
had no fanfare and there are no measurements being taken, no one (not
even ourselves) has any idea of the breadth or depth of what is
happening.

As thoughtful, caring, passionate people share their thoughts, concerns,
hopes and theories-- the change will continue, grow, expand. Thanks to
all of you for sharing-- especially to DE who always seems to bring a
focus to disjointed discussion.
