Everyone who's been around straw-bale buildings
recognizes that the thermal performance and comfort of these buildings are often
better than might be indicated by a simple (but still impressive) R-value.
The reason (in certain climates which do not necessarily include certain
portions the Frozen North) often lies in the combination of good insulation
from straw and fairly significant thermal mass in thick plaster
