SB: sad news

While many of you have never met the woman, most of you know the name
Karen Nordby from one of a number of places. She is strawlocator.com--
trying to help both farmers and owner/builders make contact. If you've
been to a central Texas stack, Karen has been a familiar figure in her
French foreign legion type hat, fastening the bright yellow water
manifold she designed to make work easier.

When it was time for a stucco party, Karen was quite often the one
manning the mixer!

She and her husband, David, were also tireless volunteers at Habitat for
Hunanity. She has been working for years to get the Austin chapter to
build at least one straw bale home. 

At straw bale stacks and on HFH worksites, Karen was best known as THE
SNOW CONE LADY. She and David put together and maintained an elaborate
snow cone set up, and it served many warm construction sites-- even to
President Carter in Houston!

Karen had been having a valiant fight with cancer, and until recently her
prognosis was victory. But things have taken a swift turn for the worse,
and today Karen is being moved into the Austin Hospice program.
