[GBlist] Hardwired moisture sensors

Kelly Lerner asked me to post this and so I am passing it on to you all.
Please copy Kelly directly if you have info to share with her. Thanks.

Hi all,
I'm looking for information on hard-wired moisture sensors. I'm working on
a little straw-bale house on the California coast (not very heavy rain
exposure) with earth plaster covered by a thin lime plaster weathering
coat.. The owner has some technical facility and we would like to put
moisture/relative humidity sensors in the bale walls at key locations and
hard wire them to his computer (or at least hardwire them to a central a
data logger that he can download into his computer).

He'll also be tracking rainfall, exterior and interior temp, exterior and
interior relative humidity. Could be some pretty nice data all together.

I've worked with probes, simple Hobo data loggers and Habib-type moisture
meters, but I don't have experience with permanent, hard-wired
installations. Do you have suggestions for what kind of system we might
use? Of course, less expensive is better, but we're not completely limited
by budget on this one.

Thanks,
Kelly (klerner@one-world-design.com)

Have you filled out our green building/building code survey yet? If not,
please go to www.dcat.net and let us know about your experiences. The
survey is only running until the end of August. Please tell your friends
and colleagues too! Thanks.
