I think that without a coating, or some pipe inside, that the rain will 
just leak through the joins, maybe not a huge amount, but enough to be a 
pain above the entrance doors.  I have the worst rain coming from the 
valley, and this is right above the front door and porch.  Even though I 
put extra drainage pipes below ground at this spot, I still end up with a 
big puddle of water.     Ultimately, capturing the water is where I want to 
go.........
