   Rob, 

   One could make a coating as the Romans did  ---lime slurry mixed into hot 
   oilve oil, making a calcium soap - Grease.... 
[sounds like a Californian salad dressing to me -RT]
   Literature tells us the Romans  coated the aquaducts this way to prevent leakage.... 

   Not a very practical solution, tho,  as I expect the soft sticky grease
   would  tend to catch organic matter, leaves, etc...( think of coating the gutters
   with yellow wheel bearing grease.....  :-) 

   Just had to put in a word for more lime use.....   :-)
