While I would like to agree with the Derelict, I would suggest a simple test
to prove the veracity of such claims.
Please submit for water-tightness testing, a wooden drawer with joints
cut using only a handsaw and chisel. (This was a typical test
to asses the skill of cabinetmakers in the Olde Days.
ie It is possible... but easy ?)

In areas in which bamboo grows, an effective gutter can be *easily* made by
splitting the bamboo in half lengthwise (a la Gilligan's Island style architecture)

BTW, There's an outdoor eatery-in-the-woods in Japan where there are "stations"
set up a various stopping off points on one's stroll through the woods, and all of
the stations are connected by a bamboo trough with water running in it.
One places an order for food and it comes zipping down the bamboo trough in a
origami boat made from a leaf. Snatch the boat, snarf down the food,
discard the leaf and continue on your walk through the garden/woods.
