Well, truth be told, I haven't actually had the misfortune of being shot at
by the inbred cro-magnons across the street. They just like to threaten
once in a while. Mostly they just shoot fish in the creek, herons, unwanted
kittens, and each other. Unfortunately, they never seem to manage to
actually kill each other with bullets--but we can keep hoping.

My notion that sb walls are bulletproof comes from both intuition and a
very scientific study done on a rerun episode of "The Rifleman" that I saw
on TV when I was about eight (i.e., circa 1971). The heroic sheriff was
shooting bullets into bales (which stopped the bullets without damaging
them) so he could test his theory of ballistics. He was, of course, way
ahead of his time. He would've been even more ahead of his time if he had
grasped the obvious conclusions of the TV show and had invented straw bale
building as a way to build bulletproof houses in the wild west.

I saw it on TV--like lots of other mindless trash I would see if I watched
TV these days--so it must be true.
