Being in the service, I have had the privilege of living in different countries. I lived 8 1/2 years in Germany and used to shop in a little bakery downtown Bamberg. Most buildings in Germany have the framing year carved on the door sill. This particular bakery's date was 1746. Imagine, a post and beam, Leichtbaum (mud straw) in-filled structure that still serves as a bakery and is older than our nation!
