SB: Santa Fe Style , digest posting 31795

I'd have to say the name style was derived from it's point of origin, right?  And if I recall, Santa Fe is in the high desert, right?  Also, from what I recall, 9" of rain there in a year, is considered a wet one?

Now, I've not been to N.Z. personally.  And, I know they have significantly varied climates.  But, it just goes to reason, if you build a house according to it's design features, and locate it in a climate that doesn't support that design?  Isn't this a moot point?

As we've all learned over our many conversations, building a SB home, isn't a "one size fits all" approach.  That applies to personal dictates as well as towards the climate.  R.T., the man with two first names, love him or not?  Has made his monichier "big shoes, big hat."  That might be over kill in the US southwest, but I've yet to see a smart old person in the dessert that didn't wear both?  And, I've yet to run across a dead one that did?  Doesn't really matter, location wise, in my book even if in a swamp, I'd still want a big hat, and large shoes...  just makes plain common sense to me..  I'll shut up now, and go back to lurking.. where I get along with myself..

Regards,
