Our good friends, Doc and Kathryn Kistner built a really cool little load
bearing SB south of Austin, in Creedmore. They installed a small wood
burning stove on their finished concrete slab. If they llight a fire,
they usually have to open an outside door. On most winter days (or what
suffices for winter in these parts) the heat from their refrigerator
keeps the house snug.

Charles Gibson and Laurel Robertson have hydronic heat in their load
bearing house in Dripping Srpings. They had little ones still playing on
the floor when they built their house. Dan and Jensie Madden, down off
Devil's Backbone, put the tubes in their dirtcrete floor (they used
Charles' 'recipe') and if Dan can get it all hooked up, they will have a
floor warmed house as well.

We are on pier and beam with very high ceilings, atop a hill west of
Austin. So we need a fire on a lot of days.

See, Mark, you don't even need to go 100 miles to have different
requirements for diffferent folks in different houses.
