Re: SB: Box Beam Lite (was Re: Barbaric bale needle gizmology)

In recent posts the venerable Mr. Steen said ...we have used these compression methods in combination with the external bamboo pins in the following way. On a recent building, we cut all the pins about 2.5" shorter than the average height of the wall. From there, we compressed the box beam so that it came into contact with the pins on the outside and inside of the walls...    and
...the RBA is brought down evenly so that it is in contact with the pins...

In another recent post the venerable RT said...earthen plasters of a thickness in the neighbourhood of 3".  This "skin" would certainly be substantial enough to be carrying loads and being more incompressible than the straw, would become loadbearing if the top plate detailing were such that the skins came into the load path as the straw continued to creep over the years.

More 'yammering' about TJIs and site built roof bearing assemblies with flanges.

This is great stuff, however the devil is in the details, which are a little fuzzy in the picture of my mind.   Are the 2x2s attached to the OSB as in a MacBlo TJI, or merely nailed flush with the edge?  Are the flanges attached to the 2x2s perpendicularly to the OSB, extending down over the bales by perhaps 4-6"?  Would the bamboo pins need to be mechanically fastened to the flange?  Would some sort of mesh covering the flange and part of the top bale be a good thing?  It all depends would be a fine answer, but I was hoping for at least some conjecture.

No grumbling/complaining, just would like to be defuzzed.  Peter.
