SB: RE: Structural Insulatated Panels (SIP)
just a clarification....insulspan does not use urea formaldehyde, but they
do use a phenolic resin which is formaldehyde-based. This form is much more
chemically stable than urea, so it does off-gas less, but there are still
free formaldehyde monomers present in the binder that off-gas over time.
(Worst right after manufacture.) The other problem with formaldehyde resins
is that they are water soluble, so not as durable if exposed to moisture.
(Though theoretically, this shouldn't be an issue inside your building
envelope.)

Subject: SB: Structural Insulatated Panels (SIP)
I have been looking on line for info about (sip's) and one I found is called
"Insulspan" It has No cfc's or formaldehyde. I was told the prices range fro
$3-6 a sf depending on thinkness or whether you had tounge& groove, sheet
rock, or isb on the bottom side. I was pretty impressed but am still going
to try and find out more. Seems like a clean, simple, fast soulution to a
super insulated ceiling/roof area.
