Re: SB: metal in walls
G ' day Aaron
We have used high tensile 2.5 gauge fencing wire throughout
all our builings both in dry and wet humid areas of
Australia. There has been no problems to date especially
since we changed to earthen plasters following our visit to
Bill and Athena Steen in March '99.
We use the tie downs every 450 mm and we achieve
pre-compression this way with a medium gripple. The method
is simple effective and cheap.
I would agree with your summations regarding steel in straw
bales and we have not used rebar for 5 years now, not even
as starter bars, we do not use them at all. Make sure that
it is high tensile fencing wire and not soft wire.
