SB: Straw-bale hangar

Hello, Julia,

I read your message in the SB Digest, 1-9-02, and just wanted to share some
information with you about sb hangars.

In the 1920s, a man named Harry Hiles is said to have built two sb dome
structures intended for use as airplane hangars. Both structures were
constructed of concrete, steel and straw bales (maybe hay bales). One
design had a second story for airplane storage and the planes were raised to
the second floor with a hydraulic lift; the ground level was to be used for
maintenance and repair. The other design was a one-story dome. These
structures were said to have been constructed in western Nebraska.

I have a flyer which Mr. Hiles prepared which I would be glad to mail to you
if you would send your snail mail address. The flyer has photograph and two
plans drawn along with text to explain his concept.
