And, when one wants to create a sense of wholeness
and inclusion when assembled for a meeting, gathering
the participants into a circle is a good way to go about it.
With these criteria in mind, the thought of something like
a teepee (or "tipi) came to mind, except that most of the
"hall" would be carved into the earth, perhaps stepped
downwards in an inverted cone like an amphitheatre,
and instead of a cone of animal skins and poles,
a mirror-image cone-as-roof over top of the amphitheatre
constructed as a corbelled dome structure using bales,
leaving a round opening at the top, like an inverted coffee
cup with the bottom cut out of it.
The round opening at the top would :
- bring in light from above and washing the walls
of the "dome" with it, a wonderful way to illuminate a space
and
- serve as an exhaust vent for a passive, stack pressure-driven
ventilation system.
The dome shape would be pretty good acoustically too I suspect.
The earth excavated to form the ampitheater could be used
to make earthen plasters which might be applied to the exterior of
the dome if desired, not with the intent to clad the entire dome in
earth plaster, but just to experiment with different recipes and techniques.
The nekkid bales would do an adequate job of keeping rain off of the
congregants if it did happen to rain and people didn't want to get wet.
And when the corroboree is over, the dome would eventually melt
back into the earth.
