SB: Re: Meeting Hall for el Lupo and Friends

Lots to do in 2002

Happy New Year Strawbalers

Mornin' RT

Just back from Hot sunny Queensland after a great workshop near Gladstone on the
central coast of Queensland.

Back home and getting through the email must get a lap top one day soon.

Thanks RT for your thoughts on the proposed Hall for the 2002 Corroboree Down
Under. I love your thoughts and I wonder........................

The Hall is going to be the Hall of Conciliation between ourselves and the
Wiradjuri people who are the ancestral custodians of the land. We need
somewhere to begin the discussion of recognising the effects that British
'settlement' had on the Aboriginal people who lived here for 40,000+ years. We,
the ancestors of the British Colonials have to learn how the Aboriginals
suffered and still are from our actions, and start the healing process. We want
to do this on a local level.

So the building is permanent and will be built from straw bales, Golden Ganmain
chaff and earthen renders. The delegates from the Corroboree from all around
the world will be part of the building process. We now have to get the blessing
of the people of Ganmain and obtain the land. This should not pose a problem.

Next we need a design and Paul Downton has agreed to design the building with
our input, it will be round and maybe in two small buildings. It would be great
if it were underground but that would not work for straw bales mate. We will
have an earthen floor the rest will come to pass with exchange of ideas as
people like you pass on thoughts. Would love a thatched roof but that may be
impractical in our climate. We could have two reciprocal frames for the roof
and then thatched? We will be asking the Wiradjuri Elders what sort of building
that they would like before we get drawings done, most important.

As important is the use that we use the two buildings for:

Wiradjuri Keeping Place.
Meeting Hall for the New Dreaming.

Any ideas? We now need to be able to use the buildings to further educate all
of us on the customs, language, conciliation (to gain favour; to gain as good
will by pleasing acts; to unite).

So if any of you on the list are coming to the SB Corroboree 2002 and would like
to help with thoughts of design and the conference itself please feel free to
contribute. We need all the help that we can get. I will reply individually I
promise but at the moment the work load is very heavy and we want this one off
event down under to be a success.

Our overall all goal is to promote low cost sustainable straw bale building
technology to the main stream of Aussies. To make them aware of the impact that
their choice of building material has on the planet. Most of all to learn from
the delegates from around the world who may come to teach us their methods of
building in straw and mud.

Thanks Rob Tom for your ideas and we love them and I will pass it on to Paul
Downton in Adelaide.

All for now from Golden Ganmain.
