SB: Re: baseboard detail?
Hi Mark, congratulations on moving into your house, I hope to do that
someday too!
I've been pondering baseboards myself. With a cement floor perhaps you might
use a tile base board, in which case you could just float a morter bed for
the tile. A friend did this in his conventional house (concrete floor) with
pre cut 3"x12" sandstone looking ceramic tiles, it looks quite nice.
As for a wooden base board two methods have come to mind. One would be to
make sure the bottom 6 or so inches of your wall plaster is straight and
flat then apply the base with some adhesive. The other, which is too late to
use in your case but I'll mention it anyway, is to apply a sub base board to
the toe up before plastering. I was thinking of something around 3/4 in.
thick that the plaster would butt to. Perhaps one would run some expanded
lath tabs on the back of this sub base to key into the plaster. One could
then glue, skrew or shoot the finish base to the sub base (hand nailing
probably wouldn't work). A lot of work for a base board eh?
