For information on northern climate construction try "Straw Bale Building" by 
Chris Magwood and Peter Mack.  Their book available through newsociety.com 
publishers is written with northern/Canadian climate concerns in mind and is 
one of the more up-to-date additions to bale literature.

For further northern climate information, try the Links section of my own 
website for a series of links to Canadian owners, tests, programs etc 
www.harvesthomes.ca  You will find many of these applicable to your situation 
in Maine.
