Replying here, Boss.
(And good to see you back. You front ain't too bad either).

It's not unreasonable to expect to have to spend in excess of
3000 person-hours to complete a house that's not too big but not
really small either. (Say around 1600 sf ?)

Obviously, I'm not talking about a shoddily-built tract home,
but one in which a modicum of care and attention to detail has
been invested.

By "complete", I mean finished to the point that the cabinetwork
is dusted and a person can make it to the front door without
having to go navigate an obstacle course of unplanted vegetation,
unlaid paving materials and odd-shaped pieces of steel with
handles attached.

Assuming that the person doing the work is reasonably competent
and works in a somewhat efficient manner, and assuming a normal
work day of at least 10 hours per day and at least 5 days per week
*working*, then it's not inconceivable that one person working
alone could take about a year of steady work to complete the house.

Obviously, two people working can cut that time in half to six months,
and if herds of skilled workers are brought in, that time
can be reduced to 6 to 8 weeks.

Change any of the variables mentioned in the second paragraph
above , (ie unskilled, inefficient workers, unproductive time,
too much time examining the insides of alcoholic beverage bottles
etc.) and the time frame becomes more like a beer gut...
bloated and ever-expanding.
