Re: SB: Assistance for "Food For the Poor"
Hi Joy,
Rev. Roth may also want to get in touch with Builders Without
Borders:
http://www.builderswithoutborders.org/
"Builders Without Borders is an international network of ecological
builders who form partnerships with communities and organizations around
the world to create affordable housing out of local materials, and to
work together for a sustainable future."

Hello,
I have been lurking on the list for about nine months, now, and
have
been an avid reader of the discussions (including the debates).
This is
my first request, however.
There is a charitable organization/ministry called "Food For the
Poor"
) that provides many services to people in
Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to food and medicine,
they
have helped to dig wells, build homes, and have even provided a
solar
oven to a community in Haiti. Noting the solar oven in one of
his
photos, I asked one of the ministers (Rev. Dr. John F. Roth) where
he
got it and then asked him if he was aware of the alternatives in
building using sustainable materials. He was not, but is looking
for
the better alternatives (i.e. inexpensive, safe, secure) to build
homes
for people in these two countries. I offered to send him the
information that I have, but, being a beginner myself, I was hoping
that
the many experts on this list could provide some information on where
he
can find assistance in this area. Rev. Roth operates in Haiti
and
Jamaica. He says that Haiti is a very arid place, but when it
rains, it
floods. To be honest, I don't even know if strawbale is the best
option
for either of these two countries. Are there any of you who can
suggest
builders who would be willing to work with him or offer their
expertise?
Or do you know of any agencies/commercial entities who could
provide
information or practical assistance? I know there have been
strawbale
and cob projects in Mexico and other places, but am unaware of who
actually organized these efforts. Finally, can you recommend any
other
avenues of information that would be helpful. Replies will be
forwarded
to him. Thank you.
