Re: SB: House testing (slightly off topic).
G 'day Good People
This request (for an offer to test a house) reminded me to tell you a story, a
true story that happened to Jack's Flat two days before Christmas.
My Little Wolverine, MLW, and I were packing for the big trip north, Christmas
and all that at about 8 pm, lovely red hot sunset, I was on top of the ute
packing and MLW was watering the garden in front of Jack's Flat. Up the road
comes a Toyota Ute with a man in a red shirt, AMIARS, running, for his life,
the ute tried to hit him, missed, jumped a culvert 3' in the air, the ute did a
ueee (u-turn) and headed straight for our land and AMIARS.
AMIARS got hold of a plank of wood and started belting the ute. The ute then
went onto the road again did another ueeee and headed straight for MLW. The
dog Jess (half dingo half border collie) was going berko, trying to bite the
tyres on the ute, MLW was screaming at the dog and I was frozen in time on top
of my ute. (Shouting SIT at the dog). When the ute driver saw MLW he swerved
to avoid her and ran straight into the side of Jack' Flat, must of being doing
60ks/hour. BANG, the straw bale wall did not budge, he hit it side on at 80
degrees and only broke one lovely hand adzed 1830s iron bark slab on the
verandah floor.
The Toyota utelimped off with his bumper bar dragging on the ground, AMIARS
went up in smoke and the dog had a great time. MLW was screaming for the boys
in blue and I went after the ute driver. Never a dull moment in Golden
Ganmain. It was near Christmas and bloody hot and boys will be boys.
I have since returned from that journey and have further inspected Jack's Flat
and she is as good as rain, only one crack in the corner of the render where
the building took the biggest impact.
I call it the sideways impaction test or SIT, (something the dog would not do
at the time of the test) for SB earthen and lime putty rendered walls.
I will write it up for the Building Code! Another winner for Straw Bale.
Could some engineer minded ones work out the kilo newtons on impact please?
Regards The Straw Wolf
PS the ute driver was charged. AMIARS has left town!
