Hi Catherine,
There are two programs of which I am aware, both administered through Natural
Resources Canada (NRC):

REDI grant - Renewable Energy Deployment Initiative - this is a pilot project
that I think may only be available in the Peterborough ON area, whereby the
NRC will rebate up to 25% of the cost of a renewable energy installation.
Not sure, but I think this may have some limitations including: 1) commercial
installation only, 2) may only apply to solar hot water generation. Again,
I'm not sure of all the details, so you may want to check this out further.

Commercial Building Incentive Program - (through the Office of Energy
Efficiency - OEE- section of NRC) As the name suggests, this too is for
commercial projects. It offers up to $60,000 to pay for the difference in
cost in DESIGNING a commercial building that is determined to be at least 25%
more efficient than building to the minimum building code standards. While
the money is earmarked for engineering, my understanding is that it has
applied to construction costs in some cases. In my former life as GM of a
high-tech energy management system purveyor, we used this program several
times. And in my present reincarnation, I worked on a project with Camel's
Back Construction in Trenton Ontario, where the program was used to assist
with not renewable energy but rather super-insulated straw bale walls, low
energy flourescent lighting and natural gas boiler for radiant floor
heating. By the way, the energy modeling software used determined that the
bale walls alone accomplished the 25% improvement in the building's operation.
