SB: Slaking quicklime

Hi all,

I have some granular quicklime that I am going to slake and use as lime
putty in plaster. Any advice on the slaking process? I have some enameled
steel 55-gallon barrels which I was going to use for the lime. I thought I
would add the water first (about 3/4 of the way full), and then slowly add
the lime (after I put on my safety glasses and gloves). Does it need to be
stirred after it is added to the water, or can it just sit? Also, I was
imagining about three 50-lb. bags to a barrel. Any ideas on this estimate?
I understand that this can be very dangerous, so any advice would be
appreciated.

Happy building,
Karen
