SB: Re: 55 gal drum, rust & plaster

the rust is iron oxide - the same as in red pigments you might use to colour your plaster. Now there probably is some reaction with the oxide and the lime which is a calcium oxide but I can't see how it could possibly interfere with the slaking other than making a slight pink tone. Actually the lime might even contain some iron oxide as both calcium and iron are common combinations within rocks (ankerite is one.)

Subject: SB: 55 gal drum, rust & plaster

Got a great deal on a bunch of 55 gal drums but there is a light dusting of rust on the inside.  We're pretty sure we can't slake the lime for our finish coat in them, but what about the lime for our sub layers.  Anyone have any experience with these?
