Not at all.

I know of straw bale homes in at least 35 US states and 15 countries, 
in a variety of climates.

Have a look at the Strawbale Building Registry at 
http://sbregistry.greenbuilder.com/ to see some of the other places 
straw bale homes have been built.  There's even one listed in Olney, 
IL.
